Cool TV Shows That You're Not Watching III

Today, Gentle Readers, the TV show in question is the USA Network's Burn Notice. I really like this show and it kind of has a mix of everything but generally falls into the spy vein with a bit of action and comedy and drama. The "burn notice" as referenced in the title is a directive issued by intelligence agencies to disavow agents or sources that are considered unreliable.

Jeffrey Donovan (Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2) plays agent Michael Westen who narrowly escapes with his life after he is disavowed in the middle of a mission in Nigeria. Westen returns to his hometown of Miami, Florida to find all of his assets frozen, unde
r constant surveillance and left out to dry by his former intelligence contacts. The only people who will have anything to do with him are his chain smoking mother (the awesome Sharon Gless of Cagney and Lacey and Queer As Folk fame), his former girlfriend Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar), who is a former bank robber for the IRA and an old friend in the spy game, Sam Axe ( the likewise awesome Bruce Campbell).

Episodes revolve around Westen's desire to discover why he's been burned and by whom while taking "assignments" from people in need who can afford to pay him for his special talents in an attempt to finance his own investigation into his blacklisting. Westen also lives under the threat of death by the powers behind his burn notice if he should attempt to leave Miami.

Burn Notice has completed it's first season and has been renewed for a second season which will premiere on the USA Network in the summer of 2008. A DVD release date for season 1 has yet to be announced.
