This is the only photograph in existence of Henry, Lord Spebbington. Lord Spebbington was one of the great explorers of the Victorian age who unfortunately arrived 2 weeks after most discoveries were made. This photograph was taken in 1845, just days before his expedition to Tibet. It was on this journey that Lord Spebbington, close to bankruptcy, returned to England with his discovery of the Tibetan "finger-quotes." Lord Spebbington retired comfortably on the royalties.
